Turning Old Into New

It feels so good to actually create something. I love it, and to be able to make it out of something you LOVED so much already, is even better! So I had this skirt all through high school and college that I absolutely loved. It was my favorite, but I loved it so much that after I married Kent the "love" showed. I could no longer wear it, but couldn't think to part with it either. So all these years I have held onto it in my pile of fabrics. Well, I just had a chance to make some new things out of my favorite skirt. I made a messenger style bag for Michael that he uses for his scriptures, I loved being able to use a back pocket from the skirt in the bag.

Then I was able to make these adorable new slippers for Emma. I had made a previous pair, but she was growing out of them and needed new ones. So I loved using my skirt again for these shoes.

Then I did some more creating, making more leggings out of women's knee high socks. I found a bunch on sale at Wal-mart, and I know Emma doesn't really "need" them, but I couldn't help myself, they were so cheap and so easy to make!

I love being able to make new things, I have many projects in the works now that Michael's birthday is the next big holiday in our house. I'll let you know how they turn out. And I'm amazed at how much material I am finding in my own "used clothes" stash and good will.

What a great job! I have a green corduroy skirt that would work great for the tote bag, too. Is there a tutorial online? Make it and Love it, or is this pure Christina genius?

Nice job! You are so creative and resourceful!! I have a pile of old t-shirts that I want to make a quilt out of. I love projects, but sometimes I wonder when I'll get around to them.
