One BIG Veggie

I am happy to say our garden turned out better this year than the previous one.  We actually got one pumpkin! (OK, so it's not ripe yet, but we were so excited to actually have one)  My lettuce and spinach were yummy to eat.  We got 4 ears of corn, and a few tomatoes.  But the best is the HUGE carrots that are still growing.

I think praying for our garden to grow really did work!

Handsome declared that he wanted to be the one to eat this carrot.  In actuality it was cut up so we all could eat some of it throughout a week. :)

Time to go and get the next one out of the garden. ;)

Drawing

Art is my weakness.  I would say that I can't draw, or do anything really creative.  I can copy, but original work, not really.  So I really wanted to make sure that my lack in the area of art didn't affect Handsome in his schooling.  So I am learning art right along with him.  And I am amazingly having a lot of fun.  The book I am using to teach us both is, "Drawing with Children: A Creative Method for Adult Beginners, Too" by Mona Brookes.

Handsome's Pumpkins in the lesson on overlapping.

Handsome's bird picture.  He had to add in a flying draco, and know that he is still not finished with it yet.

This one he did on his own, and I had to include it.  He asked me if I knew what temple it was and pointed to the dots on it.  I guessed the Kirkland Temple, and was happy to be right.  He reminded me that the women broke up their china and mixed it in to give the temple a sparkle.  I can't believe he remembered that story from a year ago!

And since I'm learning right along, I had to add one of my pictures too. :)  I used a book cover as inspiration, and am very happy with how it actually looks like it. (sorry, I can't seem to get it to turn the right way).

All Dressed Up

Handsome loved being Darth Vader.  He loved to wear his costume and got some good use out of it.

Things that one MUST do in a Darth Vader Costume:
1) Play Lego Star Wars on the Wii
 2) Dance to the "Cello Wars" from the Piano Guys
3) Set the table?  Hey, even Darth Vader has to do his chores. :)

Adorable even loved wearing the mask.

I didn't get any pictures before, but got some after our rainy Trunk or Treat at church.  We all got a little drenched, but had fun.

And pictures before the Trick or Treating in our neighborhood.  Handsome wanted to get all the houses, but Adorable dictated how long we were out.

Halloween for School

Being home schooled, my kids do miss out on the Halloween parties and parades, but we did have fun celebrating it in our own way.

I have learned that Halloween is great for art.

First, we did a drawing lesson on overlapping.  Handsome choose a book to use for inspiration in his overlapping.

Next we decorated pumpkins.

We used cereal to make pumpkins on paper.

And my personal favorite.  I had the kids count out their candy and group them in tens.  Then I told them to sort their candy any way they choose, and they had to graph it.  It was a fun way to get so much math in.

And of course there was lots and lots of Halloween book reading!

And I have to show off the fun costumes they choose.
Gorgeous was again our Princess, Sleeping Beauty this time.

Handsome was planning to be Darth Vader.  But when we learned that he couldn't wear a mask to our church Trunk or Treat, he switched to Luke Skywalker in Return of the Jedi.

And Adorable was our "Chunky Monkey" again.  I can't believe the same costume that fit him last year, fit him again. :)

Imitation

This little boy is thinking he's a big kid.
One new favorite thing is to "play" the piano........ often....... loudly.........

Then the other day as Handsome and I sat at the school table doing his reading Adorable sat down at the tutoring table with his own book and slowly turned the pages.  He kept himself busy doing this for a good five minutes!

Love my little Adorable!

The Force is Strong With This One

Bet you can guess what Handsome is going to be for Halloween. :)

When we got the costume he just had to wear it all day, and surprise Dad when he came home from work.

And what could be better than playing "Star Wars Wii" while wearing a Darth Vader costume!

No Summer is complete without...

a fun 4th of July celebration.

We went to our little towns 4th of July parade with Grandpa.

Then it was off to Grandma's and Grandpa's home to play, eat dinner, and watch neighborhood fireworks.  Grandma even got some new Lego sets for the kids to work on.

Daddy and Grandpa went and picked out some good fireworks.  This is by far Daddy's favorite holiday of the year.

Light the fireworks!
