More Randomness

I'm sure you are wondering about this random picture.  It is proof of "something".  Adorable is not crawling, he has only rolled over two times (I think the cloth diaper gave him the weight to roll from tummy to back).  And yet when I put him on the floor in the middle of a blanket I come back to find him off of the edge.  How does he get this way? I don't have a clue, but he is doing something. :)

We have hit a new step in the reading in our house.  We checked out a few recommended books from the library, and I suggested to Handsome that he knew most of those words.  So, to his own amazement, he started to actually read the words and not just look at the pictures and tell a story.  Now Handsome reads stories to Gorgeous and Gorgeous has taken to "reading" to Adorable.  I loved how she was telling Adorable all about the book, and Adorable was really interested in his sister talking to him.  Too bad she never showed him the pictures.

And of course a cute picture of Daddy's Girl.

Random Up-To-Dateness

Just a random post about our lives.

For the 4th we also used window markers and drew on the windows.  I drew a flag.  The next day I noticed that with the curtains drawn it created this cool effect.  Had to get a picture and of course the kids had to be a part of it. :)

Adorable is growing so fast.  Now he is in 9 month clothing.  Now usually I have to move my babies out of the bassinet because they started rolling over.  Adorable is not rolling over, he has just gotten too big.  There is less than an inch left and he would be touching both ends.  I can't believe how fast he is growing.

Due to Adorable's growth, we have had to move Gorgeous out of her bed and into the big kid bed, so that Adorable would be able to use it.  There were tears and the sad "I'll miss my bed" trying to hold in the tears.  I felt bad, but it was time to move on.  We discussed how Handsome use to be in the crib, and then it went to Gorgeous, and now Adorable will use it.  She slept well so far (2 nights) in the big kid bed. (Kent says I am jinxing myself for saying so).

Handsome and Gorgeous have discovered the piano.  I let them play as long as it is softly.  Handsome plays "rock star" songs for Adorable, and Gorgeous plays "lullabies".  I love their creativity, and to me it actually sounds good (you know, for a 5 or 3 year old).

Adorable in his favorite place to sleep, the floor in the middle of all that is happening.  And well, I love pictures of sleeping babies, so I included it.

I have to admit that I love to style Adorable's hair in a Mohawk.  I think it is well... adorable.  Of course only while in the "baby phase."  I don't think it is adorable when a kid is, lets say 5.  But for babies I have to say I like it on Adorable.  A personal trademark. :)  If you look closely you can see the Mohawk in the pictures.

Adorable has also discovered his fingers.  I spent an entire day pulling his fingers out, and putting in a pacifier, to have him spit out the pacifier and put his fingers back in.  After a day I admitted that it was a fight I could not win, and give in.  So now he sucks his two middle fingers and then puts his other hand over the top to protect them from... well me, so I don't pull them out.  It's funny how that happened.

And just a cute picture of Handsome and Adorable.  Two good looking boys. :)

My Princess

My little Princess loves to get into the dress ups and be a princess.  She says "call me Princess (Gorgeous)."   Gorgeous and Handsome seem to play a certain game often now.  It is where Princess Gorgeous is stranded on a high tower (a bar stool) and is surrounded by something bad and cries out for help from "Super Kid" otherwise known as Handsome.  To which Handsome puts on his super hero cape and comes to her rescue fighting off whatever stands in his way.  So here are a few pictures of my princess in her various outfits.

This last one she is in her "princess BYU dress" and decided that she needed a blanket out for her so she could lay on it and play with Adorable.  I have to say, it was adorable!

Our 4th

For our 4th of July the morning was spent with yard work.  Kent had to take the day to get some needed yard work done, and Handsome and Gorgeous loved helping (or playing in the dirt).  Then we did some fun preschool 4th of July activities.  And of course as tradition, we had to do a fruit pizza looking like the American flag to enjoy after our BBQ.

Since the kids were recovering from sickness and I now have it, we did a low key 4th.  Grandpa Rowley sent over some fireworks for the kids since they would miss the extended family ones.  Thank you Grandpa!  They did sparklers and poppers.  Handsome figured that the best way to get the poppers to pop was to jump really high and throw them while mid air.  That boy caught some air!  This is just one of the many mid-jump pictures I got of him.  I can't believe how high he can jump!

Then we got the kids ready for bed, Kent went to the family fireworks (something about fire and loud bangs that big boys love).  While I snuggled with our three little ones and watch firework displays on TV.  Plus I got to listen to one of my favorite singers, Josh Groban.  As we watched, the kids fell like flies saying they were tired.  So I tucked them into bed, one at a time.  Finally I was alone to enjoy the rest.  Also, I got to watch the neighborhood ones.  We live close to an Indian reservation so everyone buys the "good" kind of fireworks.  So to me it is like a professional display everywhere you look.  There were neighbors doing some right in front of our house that were nice to watch (this morning Handsome confessed that in his room he watched those out his window too). :)

I had a wonderful low key 4th.  If only I was feeling better to enjoy it more.  But overall it was a good one.

More Adorable

Can I just say I am so blessed to have our little Adorable in our family.  For about the first month he was up every 2 hours all night and eating every 2 hours all day.  But at about one month, he started to sleep through the night (9 to 10 hours straight!).  Still ate every 2 hours during the day, but what do I care, especially if I am getting a good night sleep.  Now he still eats often during the day, and naps best on the floor in the main room on his tummy surrounded by noise and running children (of course not right next to him). :)

I also have to say he is my social baby.  Handsome was social too, but Adorable is even more so.  Anytime anyone looks or talks to him he smiles and "chats" right back.  He doesn't mind who is holding him at all (unless hungry or tired), and is so mellow.  He especially loves it when Handsome or Gorgeous talk and play with him.   However, if one of his siblings is crying he cries too.

He is growing fast (probably because of the often feedings, and the fact he started out big!).  He is just now 3 months and is leaving 6 month clothing and going into the 6-9 month size!  However he is perfectly proportional, as he is in the 95% for weight and height.

Adorable is so patient, happy, and mellow.  How did I get so blessed.  We are so glad he came to our family!

Reading Tip

Something I learned, thought I would pass it along.  When reading outloud a chapter book to your kids, don't stop at the end of the chapter.  Stop at the climax of something about to happen and leave with a cliff hanger.  Example, we are reading "The Trumpet of the Swan" and I left off with the fox about to attack the swan.
Stop reading and when they complain and want you to keep reading, tell them not now you have to do, x,y,z (for me it's chores) and then when you are done we can go back to reading, or for older kids, tell them they can read ahead but promise not to tell anyone what happens.  I've been doing this and my kids are begging me to keep reading.  It works wonderfully.  And I let them "read ahead" by looking at the few pictures in the book.
It works for me, I'm sure it'll work for you too. :)
